Tempo Controls

Handles everything related to BPM, beat synchronization, and phase alignment. It’s where you set tempo manually or via external sources, adjust beat quantization, and ensure that clips and effects stay rhythmically locked to the music.

Clock & Data Indicators

  • Indicates incoming MIDI clock or Ableton Link signals and MIDI note and control change data.

  • If MIDI clock is detected, the CLOCK indicator will blink

  • If the Beat Tracker is enabled, the CLOCK indicator will blink when a beat is detected.

  • If Ableton Link is enabled, the CLOCK label will change to "LINK" and the indicator will blink when peer activity is detected

  • The DATA indicator will blink when MIDI data (other than MIDI clock) is detected at MIDI port enabled in Preferences / MIDI & BPM.

Beat Tracker Button

Enable to turn on the Beat Tracker function. This will listen to your audio signal and calculate the tempo to be used in the BPM engine. Tap out the tempo of your music using the TAP Tempo button for at least 5 beats in a row and then give the engine ~10 seconds to lock on to your music. It will lock on to any new music in a playlist if the music is within +/- 10 BPM of the current BPM value.

Tap Tempo

Let's you tap a tempo to manually set the BPM.

Current BPM

Displays the currently BPM.

Tempo Divider

Divides or multiplies the BPM to control effective playback tempo without having to change the master tempo.

BPM Mode & Time-stretch

A ganged button that toggles BPM / Time Modes and enables time stretching so that clips with a beatgrid will sync to the master tempo.

CUE

Sets the down beat of the BPM engine similar to how DJs set the downbeat when cuing music to beat match two tracks.

Nudge Buttons

Manually pushes or pulls the running tempo to re-align the visuals with music in real time. Once the tempo of the BPM engine matches your music perfectly use these buttons to precisely align the visuals to the music and to account for any delays in the video signal. For instance, if the visuals are lagging behind your music, use the nudge forward button until the visuals align with your music.

Global Quantize

Sets the quantize value for manual changes made in the UI. Quantizing ensures your manual changes to button and switch controls will stay in sync with the music.
